Writing Thank You in cursive makes a note feel personal in a way typed text rarely does. Whether you are signing a Thanksgiving card, a teacher's note or a wedding thank-you, this guide shows how to write it by hand letter by letter, how to type a cursive-style "Thank You" you can copy and paste, which script fonts look best on printed cards, and a few phrases to try beyond the basic two words.
Thank You in cursive: copy and paste
If you just need the text, copy one of these. They are made from Unicode characters, so they paste into most apps, bios and messages as real text, not images.

Why some letters look slightly different
Look closely at the "o" in "You": it is β΄, not a character from the same block as the other letters. Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block leaves gaps ("holes") for a few script letters that were already encoded earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block, such as β (U+210B), β― (U+212F), β (U+210A) and β΄ (U+2134). Generators fill those gaps automatically, which is why "Thanksgiving" uses β for its g. Our Unicode cursive vs font-based cursive article explains the difference in detail.
Where it works (and where it may not)
Unicode cursive works in most social apps, chat apps and bios. Two cautions:
- Screen readers may read styled Unicode letters oddly or skip them, so keep important information in plain text.
- Some older devices or fonts may show boxes for a few characters. Our cursive compatibility matrix shows which platforms display which styles.
How to write Thank You in cursive by hand
Handwriting it is the warmest option. Take it slowly; the joins matter more than speed.
Thank
- Capital T. Start with the top bar: a gentle wave from left to right. Then drop the stem from the middle of the bar, curving it slightly left at the bottom. In many cursive styles the capital T does not join to the next letter, so lift your pen.
- h. Start on the baseline, swing up into a tall loop that reaches the top line, come straight down, then make a hump and finish with an upward exit stroke.
- a. From the exit stroke, curve over and around to make an oval, close it at the top, then come down with a short stroke and an exit.
- n. Climb up from the a, make two rounded humps of the same height, and finish with an exit stroke.
- k. A tall loop like h, then a small loop at the middle and a kick out to the right.
You
- Capital Y. Start with a small hump like the first half of a cursive u, then sweep down below the baseline into a loop that comes back up and through.
- o. Make a small oval, close it at the top, and finish with a little horizontal "bridge" stroke at the top rather than dropping to the baseline.
- u. From the bridge, dip down, up, down again, and finish with an exit stroke.
Our cursive alphabet shows every letter, and the individual pages for cursive T, cursive Y and cursive k break those three tricky letters into strokes.
Practice routine
- Five rows of each letter first, focusing on even height.
- Five rows of "Thank" with joins, then five rows of "You".
- The full phrase on a scrap card before the real one.
- Use the same pen you will use on the card, because a gel pen and a fountain pen feel very different on paper.
You can print guided rows of "Thank You" with our worksheet generator. For a broader routine, read how to improve cursive handwriting.
"Thank You" or "Thank you"?
Both are fine, and in cursive the choice changes the look more than the meaning.
- "Thank You" with a capital Y treats the phrase like a title. It suits the front of a card, a banner or a centred headline, and the looped capital Y gives the design a second flourish.
- "Thank you" with a lower-case y reads like a sentence. It suits the inside of a card, where it starts a message: "Thank you for the beautiful flowers."
If you write a full sentence after it, use the lower-case version so the line flows naturally. If the words stand alone, either works, so pick the one you like the look of.
Common mistakes when writing Thank You in cursive
- Uneven letter heights. Tall letters (T, h, k) should reach the same top line, and short letters (a, n, o, u) should all sit at the same middle height. Lightly pencilled guidelines help.
- Forcing the T to join. Many people bend the capital T to connect it to the h, which makes the word look cramped. A small gap after the T is normal.
- Rushing the o bridge. The little bridge stroke at the top of the o is what connects it to the u. Drop it to the baseline and the word looks broken.
- Pressing too hard. Heavy pressure makes the loops stiff. Relax your grip and let the pen glide.
- Starting on the final card. Always do a test run on scrap paper first, using the same pen.
Signing off a thank-you note in cursive
The closing line is the perfect place for a little extra cursive. Short sign-offs such as "With love", "Warmly", "Gratefully" or "With thanks" are easy to write in one flowing stroke and finish the card beautifully. Add your name underneath in your neatest cursive. If you want a polished signature for digital cards and emails too, our signature generator can create one, and our article on digital vs handwritten signatures explains when each is appropriate.
Thank You cursive fonts for cards and printables
If you are printing cards, a script font gives you consistent, polished results. Free options on Google Fonts, all released under the SIL Open Font License, include:

Thank you phrases to write in cursive
Two words are lovely, but a short line makes a card feel complete. Try:
- Thank you so much
- With heartfelt thanks
- Thank you for everything
- So grateful for you
- Thanks a million
- With love and gratitude
When you write a longer phrase, plan the spacing before you start. Lightly mark the centre of the card in pencil, count the letters on each side, and begin a little left of where you think the line should start, because cursive words often run wider than expected. Erase the pencil marks once the ink is completely dry so you do not smudge your loops.
Long phrases show off cursive's flowing joins. Our list of words in cursive has more ideas, and if you are planning ahead, yesterday's guide to Happy Birthday in cursive and our Merry Christmas in cursive guide use the same steps.

Frequently asked questions
How do you write Thank You in cursive?
Write a capital T with a wavy top bar, lift your pen, then join h, a, n and k with loops and exit strokes. For You, make a looped capital Y, a small o with a bridge stroke, and a u. Practise each letter before writing the phrase.
How do I copy and paste Thank You in cursive?
Copy a ready version such as π―π½πΆππ π΄β΄π from the table above, or type your own words into a Unicode cursive text generator and copy the style you like.
Why does the o in cursive Thank You look different?
Unicode encodes a few script letters, including β΄, β―, β and β, in the older Letterlike Symbols block instead of the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, so generators use those characters to fill the gaps.
What is the best cursive font for thank you cards?
For formal cards, Great Vibes; for friendly notes, Dancing Script; for bold headlines, Pacifico. All three are free on Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License.
Does cursive text work on Instagram and WhatsApp?
Unicode cursive usually displays in Instagram captions and bios and in chat apps, but some older devices may show boxes, and screen readers may not read it clearly.
