Want to write Happy Thanksgiving in cursive? Quick answer: copy a ready-made version below (โ๐ถ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐๐โ๐พ๐๐พ๐โ), or write it by hand with a looped capital H, a capital T that stands on its own, and steady joins through "anksgiving". This guide covers both, plus place-card and chalkboard ideas, card phrases, and the date of Thanksgiving 2026 (Thursday, November 26 in the United States).

Tip: the bold script style is easier to read at small sizes, such as on a phone lock screen or in a group chat. The lighter script style looks more elegant in a large heading.
Why "Happy" and "Thanksgiving" use odd-looking letters
Look at the H in "Happy" and the two g's in "Thanksgiving": โ and โ. Unicode's main script alphabet has gaps for letters that were encoded earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block, including โ (U+210B), โ (U+210A), โฏ (U+212F) and โด (U+2134). A good generator fills those gaps automatically, which is why the letters look a little different from their neighbours. Our Unicode vs font-based cursive guide explains why.
How to write Happy Thanksgiving in cursive by hand
A handwritten greeting on a place card or card is worth the extra minute. Pencil in light guidelines first: a baseline, a middle line for short letters and a top line for tall letters.
Happy
- Capital H. Make two tall strokes: a left stem with a small curl at the top, then a right stem. Join them with a loop across the middle that flows into the next letter.
- a. Curve over into a closed oval, then a short down stroke and an exit.
- p, p. Each p climbs from the baseline, drops a straight stem below the line, comes back up, and finishes with a rounded bowl. Keep both p's the same depth.
- y. A small hump like a u, then a loop below the baseline that crosses back up at the baseline.
Thanksgiving
- Capital T. Draw the wavy top bar, then the stem. In most styles the T does not join, so lift your pen before the h.
- h, a, n, k. A tall loop for h, an oval for a, two humps for n, and a tall loop with a small kick for k.
- s. Climb up to a point, then curve down and close at the baseline.
- g. An oval like an a, then a loop below the baseline.
- i, v, i. Short strokes; the v ends with a small bridge at the middle line. Dot both i's after you finish the word, not during.
- n, g. Two humps, then the final looped g.
The word is long, so space it out. Letters that bunch up in the middle are the most common reason "Thanksgiving" looks messy. Our cursive alphabet and the letter pages for cursive H, cursive T and cursive g show the strokes step by step.
Thanksgiving card and place-card phrases
Short phrases work best on place cards and table signs; longer ones fit inside a card.
Short (place cards, banners, chalkboards)
- Happy Thanksgiving
- Give Thanks
- Gather
- Grateful
- Thankful and Blessed
- Welcome, Friends
Inside a card
- Wishing you a warm and happy Thanksgiving
- So thankful for you this year
- May your table be full and your heart be fuller
- Grateful for family, friends and pie
- Thank you for being part of our story
If the card is mainly a thank-you, our guide to Thank You in cursive has more phrases and the full letter-by-letter breakdown.
Place cards, chalkboards and table decor
- Place cards: write the guest's name large in cursive and add "Happy Thanksgiving" small underneath. Our cursive name generator previews names before you write them.
- Chalkboard signs: use a chalk marker, write the phrase in pencil first, and thicken every downstroke for a faux-calligraphy look.
- Kraft-paper runners: write each guest's name at their seat with a white or gold paint pen.
- Leaf tags: cut paper leaves and write one word on each: Thankful, Grateful, Blessed.
Practise on scrap paper with the same pen first. Paint pens and chalk markers flow very differently from ballpoints. If you are writing many place cards, write all the "Happy Thanksgiving" lines first and the names second, so your hand settles into one rhythm at a time.
Faux calligraphy: make your cursive look hand-lettered
You do not need a brush pen to get a calligraphy look. Write "Happy Thanksgiving" in your normal cursive, then go back and add a second line next to every downstroke (any stroke where your pen moved down the page). Fill in the gap between the two lines. Upstrokes stay thin. The thick-thin contrast is what makes brush lettering look elegant, and this method works with any pen, chalk marker or paint pen.
Three tips:
- Thicken downstrokes on the same side every time, usually the right.
- Leave the joins thin so the letters still look connected.
- Keep the thick parts the same width across the whole phrase.
Thanksgiving cursive for kids and classrooms
November is a good month for cursive practice because the words mean something to children. Ideas that work at home or in class:
- Gratitude leaves: each child writes one thing they are thankful for in cursive on a paper leaf, and the leaves go on a classroom tree.
- Tracing sheets: print "Happy Thanksgiving" or "Thankful" as dotted tracing rows with the worksheet generator, then move on to copying without tracing.
- Name place cards: children write their own names in cursive for the family table.
- Short words first: "Give Thanks" is easier than the long "Thanksgiving", so start there.

When is Thanksgiving 2026?
| Country | Rule | 2026 date |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Fourth Thursday of November | Thursday, November 26 |
| Canada | Second Monday of October | Monday, October 12 |
The U.S. date is set by law. On December 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a joint resolution of Congress making the fourth Thursday of November the legal Thanksgiving holiday. The fourth Thursday was chosen instead of the last, which avoids confusion in years when November has five Thursdays. In Canada, Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday of October, so it has already passed this year.
Common mistakes
- Joining the capital T. A forced join after the T crowds the h. A small gap is normal.
- Uneven g loops. Thanksgiving has two g's; make them the same depth so the word looks balanced.
- Dotting the i's as you go. It breaks the rhythm. Finish the word, then add the dots.
- Running out of space. Write the word in pencil first, or start further left than you think.
- Using Unicode cursive for important details. Screen readers may read styled letters oddly, so keep dates, times and addresses in plain text.

Frequently asked questions
How do you write Happy Thanksgiving in cursive?
Start with a looped capital H and join it to "appy", ending with a y loop below the line. For "Thanksgiving", write the capital T, lift your pen, then join "hanksgiving" with even loops on the k and both g's. Dot the i's at the end.
Can I copy and paste Happy Thanksgiving in cursive?
Yes. Copy โ๐ถ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฝ๐ถ๐๐๐โ๐พ๐๐พ๐โ or the bold version from the table. It is Unicode text, so it pastes into most apps, captions and messages. Some older devices may show a few boxes.
Why do some letters look different in cursive copy-and-paste text?
A few script letters, such as โ, โ, โฏ and โด, were added to Unicode earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block, so the main script alphabet skips them. Generators fill those gaps automatically, which is why those letters look slightly different.
