Cursive Letter D β How to Write & Copy-Paste πΉ
By Alex Rivera Β· Last updated August 2, 2026 Β· Last tested: July 28, 2026
Cursive d pairs an oval body with a tall ascender that loops back into an exit stroke. In many U.S. school methods, lowercase d looks like a modified a with a high stem; in others the stem loops like a cursive l attached to an oval. Either way, d is essential for everyday English and for practicing consistent oval size. Uppercase D is a single tall loop with a large right-facing bowlβpopular in formal signatures. Students who rush d often produce a printed βstick d,β breaking the connected flow of the word.

How to write cursive D
- 1 Form the oval: Draw a counterclockwise oval similar to cursive a, sized to the midline.
- 2 Ascend: Continue up the right side of the oval to the ascender line without lifting.
- 3 Loop and exit: Loop left slightly at the top, descend, and exit right along the baseline.
- 4 Capital D: Start with an upward stem, swing a large right bowl, and finish with a short connector.
How to connect D to the next letters
Exit d along the baseline into e, a, or i for the smoothest joins. When the next letter is another ascender (h, l, k), keep the connector short so the stems do not collide.
